A message from KAAE President Paula Wolf (4/12/09)
Dear Kentucky Alliance for Arts Education (KAAE) members,
The state of Arts education in Kentucky is changing, and so are we. We have decided to join forces with Arts Kentucky as a unified voice in promoting the Arts in schools. A formal announcement was made at the Arts Advocacy Day in February.
Since 1973 KAAE has been promoting arts education, while helping teachers and recognizing excellence in the field. Arts Kentucky has been gaining strength as a statewide advocacy, education and communications network in recent years, and they have embraced arts education as central to their mission. It makes sense to us that we should speak with a unified voice for arts education, and our organizations have agreed to a plan where we will carry out our mission of Arts for All: All Four Arts by creating a strong working group within Arts Kentucky.
What does this mean for you? It means that Arts Kentucky will be the lead organization for arts education advocacy going forward, and that KAAE will have a strong supporting role within that organization.
KAAE has arranged for all of its current members to have joint membership with Arts Kentucky. You will begin receiving the weekly Arts News from Arts KY until at least your month of renewal. We hope at that time you will consider renewing your membership through Arts Kentucky at that time.
Other news
As we make this transition, we are proposing a name change from the Kentucky Alliance for Arts Education to the Kentucky Association for Arts Education. You will be receiving a notice of a general membership meeting. At that meeting we will vote to formalize the change.
Because of the changes that the organization is making, the summer conference scheduled for June 2009 is being postponed. However we are planning other educational and professional development opportunities in the future. Please watch for more announcements through email.
If you have any questions about the future of KAAE please contact us at artsedky@gmail.com. If you want the notice of the meeting mailed to you please send your name and mailing address to the above.
Thank you for your support and your patience as we evolve into an even stronger advocacy group with more opportunities to learn from experts and each other.
Sincerely, Paula Wolf, KAAE Chair
